According to Sing Tao Daily, Wan had pre-emptively notified President Lee of her absence, and her explanation was accepted by the council secretariat. Wan was elected to the Legislative Council in January through the Election Committee constituency.
A group photograph taken before the departure for Beijing revealed five additional lawmakers who were initially not part of the main delegation but reportedly joined their colleagues later in Beijing. The total number of legislators currently stands at 89, following the resignation of William Wong in early July due to a drink-driving arrest. Wong, also an Election Committee constituency lawmaker, stepped down shortly after the incident.
