Daphne, who identifies as a "professional domme," shared her journey into BDSM and erotic services. Her entry into the field in 2022 was partly inspired by her fascination with latex during her fashion design studies. Daphne emphasized the importance of clear communication and boundaries in her work, stating, "I really like BDSM. I really enjoy the power exchange dynamic." In contrast, another participant, who requested to be identified as Captain, entered the world of part-time girlfriend services in 2017 as a student. Her primary motivation was to alleviate her family’s substantial debt. Captain views her work primarily as a financial necessity, stating, "I heard that being a part-time girlfriend would allow me to make a lot of money quickly." She recounted instances of her privacy being violated, including being filmed without consent and experiencing a police raid on a spa where she was working. To safeguard herself, Captain employs a cautious approach, always checking into hotel rooms with clients together to prevent any covert surveillance. She also relies on regular STD check-ups facilitated by Action for Reach Out. "Only my closest friends know that this is what I do," she admitted, underscoring the need for discretion and the societal pressures faced by sex workers.
